One small gift begins with many kinds of care.

YUAN TOGETHER

Made by one pair of hands. Carried forward by another.

A long-term project rooted in human-centred care, pairing flexible work with a complimentary gift passed from one person to another.

The meaning of together

YUANCHARM is building a quieter way for connection to travel. Through Yuan Together, people facing barriers to conventional work, including older makers in rural communities, people with disabilities, and others who benefit from flexible work, can take part in simple, flexible making at a pace that suits them. A family member, friend, or community contact may be the first bridge. We share a clear tutorial, a sample, and the tools and materials needed to begin. Each finished bracelet is reviewed for consistency before it becomes a complimentary Yuan Together gift, and accepted work is fairly compensated. These bracelets are not sold as YUANCHARM products. When available, they are selected at random and passed on with eligible orders.

Project moments

The work is simple by design. These are the quiet points where a making relationship takes shape.

The images below are examples of the making process and everyday wearing context; they are not portraits or records of individual participants or customers.

How it works

A clear, three-part process connects first conversation to finished gift.

  1. Guided

We send a clear video tutorial, a sample, and the simple tools and materials needed to begin.

  2. Handmade

The participant learns at their own pace and completes each piece through a simple, repeatable process.

  3. Shared

The first piece is reviewed for finish and consistency. We then continue with materials and fairly compensate accepted work as the relationship grows.

HOW CONNECTIONS BEGIN

A relationship may begin close to home.

We share the project through Chinese short-video, lifestyle, and community platforms, local online marketplaces, public microblogging platforms, and volunteer organisations. When a family member, friend, or community contact sees a possible fit, they may contact us on behalf of someone facing barriers to conventional work. This may include people with disabilities and older makers in rural communities.

With consent, we begin with a video conversation and review only the context needed to make a careful decision, including relevant supporting documentation where appropriate, making ability, and the working environment. If the arrangement is suitable, we send a detailed tutorial, a sample, and the simple tools and materials needed to begin. The first completed pieces are mailed back to us for quality review before the arrangement continues. Because capacity is limited, we prioritise people who would benefit most from flexible work while keeping the project open beyond one group.
